Longhorn Ballroom
"Texas’ Most Historic Music Venue"
- Texas Monthly Magazine
Built in 1950 for Western swing legend Bob Wills, the Longhorn Ballroom originally opened as Bob Wills’ Ranch House, a custom venue for the king of Texas dancehalls and his band, the Texas Playboys. Over the years, it changed ownership and underwent various transformations, but never lost its vibrant spirit. It was briefly operated by Jack Ruby and later revitalized by Dewey Groom, becoming a home for musical legends across multiple genres.
Throughout its history, this iconic venue has hosted an impressive lineup of music greats, including Willie Nelson, Loretta Lynn, Merle Haggard, Patsy Cline, Ray Charles, B.B. King, James Brown, Selena, and many more. In 1978, it gained international notoriety as one of only six stops on the Sex Pistols’ legendary and chaotic first American tour.
The Longhorn Ballroom has always been more than just a venue; it serves as a stage for change, embracing innovative artists and a diverse community of music lovers. Today, under new ownership, it is writing the next chapter of its story by preserving its rich history while shaping a bold and inclusive future for this Texas icon.
